Domestic aides' parents suspect foul play

The bodies of Sumathy, daughter of Lectchuman and Jeewarani, daughter of Madhuraveeran of St. Andrew's Upper Division, Laxapana Estate, Maskeliya were brought to the estate and buried amidst a large gathering of estate workers.

The crowd was grief stricken with most of them bursting out with loud cries. Sumathy and Jeewarany's parents said that they had suspicion about the deaths and did not believe they committed suicide. Sumathy was born on September 22, 1994 while Jeevarany was born on December 24, 1995 according to their Birth certificates.

Their parents said their daughters were sent to Colombo as domestic aides due to their poverty . Both were sent on April 23, 2009 for employment. "We never expected that both of them would meet such a mysterious death in Colombo at their work places."

Having seen the pathetic scene, many parents from the estates who had sent their daughters as domestic aides to Colombo, have said they hoped to get them give up their jobs and return home.
