Probe into alleged Biology paper leak

Police and the Examinations Department have commenced separate investigations to ascertain weather the G.C.E. A/L Biology II question paper had leaked out before the examination day," Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday.

The Minister said that there were identical questions in a model question paper prepared by a private tuition teacher and the question paper prepared by the Examinations Department. "But it was too early to come to a conclusion that the question paper had been leaked out," he said.

The responsibility of guaranteeing a proper exam lies with the Commissioner General of Examinations.

The Education Ministry Secretary has already inquired from the Commissioner General about this matter.

It was revealed that only questions had been leaked out and not the question paper," he said.

The Commissioner General has reported that an investigation has already commenced by his Department. Minister Premajayantha was making a special statement on the issue of an alleged leak of the Biology II question paper as reported in the media.

Meanwhile, the police too has commenced a separate probe in this regard. Once the investigations are over, a detailed report will be submitted to the House," the Minister assured.

JVP Parliamentary Group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said only some questions from the paper had been leaked.

"A private tuition teacher had sent six questions to all his students by post a few days prior to the examination. "We need a day for a special debate on this matter," he said.

The Minister said a debate could be fixed for Friday.
