Sri Lanka's information technology market is poised to grow with IT usage in the public and private sectors expanding, and the number of online transactions and broadband subscribers increasing, in addition to the growth of online education. This expansion is also reflected in the demand for mini notebooks despite a downturn in the global economy and political instability. Portable in design and affordable in price, the mini notebook is particularly suited to emerging markets such as Sri Lanka.

With demand for notebooks set to enter a high growth trajectory, PC Partner has diversified its business to meet the evolving needs of the local ICT landscape.


Second OEM Academy

Microsoft Sri Lanka completed its second OEM Sales Academy recently, a program designed to enhance the skills of the sales personnel of Microsoft resellers.

Sales personnel can achieve several levels of qualifications in the OEM Sales Academy program which recognizes their product knowledge and sales skills.

The Academy trains the participating sales personnel to reach the first level of the program "Sales Specialist" based on the skills they demonstrate and performance during the program.

They then proceed to acquire qualifications to become "Sales Professional" and then "Sales Champion".

Forty-five Sales personnel have undergone the OEM Sales Academy training this year. Mohommed Sarooj is a participant of the first Microsoft OEM Sales Academy who was upgraded to "Sales Professional" level, recognizing his achievements.

Cartoon newtwork joins Art TV

Watch Cartoon expanding its footprint in South Asia, Turner International launched a dedicated one hour programming block of its leading children's channel, Cartoon Network on ART Television, Sri Lanka's terrestrial English channel.

Starting August 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily, children can now enjoy the opportunity to experience Cartoon Network's world famous cartoons, which include Dexter's Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Johnny Bravo, Ed, Ed N Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog and many more.

Nawaloka launches home nursing services

Nawaloka Hospitals have introduced a specialized home nursing service. Specially trained Intensive Care Unit [ICU] nurses are provided, offering round the clock service, with shifts being arranged accordingly.

Patients of any age could be looked after, with the special Nawaloka touch.

"Our nurses will be in constant contact about their patient's problems with the sister in charge of the Medical Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital" said Director / General Manager Nawaloka Hospital, Prof Lal Chandrasena. Specialized nursing procedures such as urinary catheterization, and insertion of nasogastric tubes could also be carried out by experienced nurses from Nawaloka Hospital within one's own home.

When we grow older most people want to continue living in their familiar surroundings.

Their adult children often become their primary care givers, but when patients become progressively difficult to take care of or when the responsibility of full time attention becomes too overwhelming, families need to consider professionals and there are many advantages to receiving healthcare at home", he said.


Lankaputhra Development Bank (LDB), as part of its corporate responsibility towards society, has made available bottled drinking water to inmates of IDP camps in the North and the East. A token presentation of supplies was made at the Ministry of Finance and Planning on August 12. Here Minister of Finance and State Revenue, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya receives a token presentation of bottled drinking water from Chairman of Lankaputhra Development Bank, A. Sarath de Silva. Asst. General - Manager Credit, Ranjith Dissanayake was also present.
