National Business Excellence Awards 2009
Over 150 applications :
More than 150 companies from different parts of the country have
registered for the National Business Excellence Awards 2009. Of this
number, 110 companies are large scale Blue Chips and 40 are Small and
Medium Entrepreneurs who have been carrying out successful business
activities.
NBEA is an annual business benchmark competition conducted by the
National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) since 2004.
This is the sixth consecutive year the National Chamber of Commerce
conducts the NBEA.NBEA has been designed to recognize business
organizations making a significant contribution to the socio-economic
development of the country through exemplary business practices.
Selection for awards is done through a thorough technical evaluation
followed by interviews by a highly recognized Panel of Judges.
The Panel of Judges consists of Director, Post graduate Institute of
Management, Dr. Uditha Liyanage (Chairman of the panel of Judges),
Company Director M.R. Prelis, Senior Country Economist, World Bank Claus
Astrup, President, Society of Certified Management Accountants of Sri
Lanka (CMA) Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala, Visiting Lecturer, PIM Prof.
David Evans and Head Project Monitoring Unit of the Asian Development
Bank Munawar Alam.
The criteria used to evaluate performances are: "Business and
Financial Performance", "Global Reach", "Knowledge Integration",
"Technology Investments", "Capacity Building", "Excellence in
Performance Management Practices", "Best Practices in Corporate
Governance" and "Corporate Social Responsibility".
The next workshop will be held on August 7 from 3.00 pm - 5.00 pm. It
is sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel as the principal sponsor, Bank
of Ceylon, Co-sponsor and ETA Lanka (Pvt) Ltd the awards sponsor.
