The Minister assured that KP is in the custody of the defence
authorities and will be dealt with according to the law of the land
following investigations.
The Minister stressed that the Government Security Forces and their
intelligence service are capable of destroying LTTE activities anywhere
in the world.
“The arrest of KP witnesses the capabilities of our Forces and
intelligence establishment,” he added.

He pointed out that when the country was celebrating the victory
against the LTTE, KP and his associates were working in the backyard to
regroup the LTTE by convincing the International community of its
ability to reemerge.
“KP who was posing as a national of several countries and carrying
out multi- faceted activities was capable of convincing some of them
even though the LTTE was defeated. This led some people to believe the
LTTE might reemerge again,” he remarked.
Minister Rambukwella reiterated that some people who did not accept
the Government’s victory as final downplayed it locally and
internationally. Their doubts were strengthened with the appointment of
KP as the LTTE leader.
The Minister observed that the arrest of KP sends a strong message
that the Government has the support of the International Community in
combating LTTE operations in foreign countries.
Replying to a question whether KP will be extradited to India to face
charges in connection with the assassination of former Indian Prime
Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Minister Rambukwella said there has not been such
request up to now and if such a request is made, the Government will
deal with it according to International norms, treaties and conventions. |
