Sri Lankan boys team knocked-out from the quarter-finals

The Sri Lankan boys team was knocked out from the quarter-finals of the Asian Youth Under-16 Badminton Championships 2009 which is now in progress at the S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium in Mount Lavinia.

Sri Lanka went down fighting to Singapore 1-2 in the team event while India beat Chinese Taipei 2-0 to join the semi-final line up.

Meanwhile in the semi-finals of the boys competition Malaysia beat Singapore 2 -1 while Hong Kong overcame India 2-0. Hong Kong and Malaysia are already through to the finals.

In the girls tournament semi-finals the Sri Lanka team was up against Thailand and Malaysia were scheduled to take on the Chinese Taipei team.

The tournament was officially declared open by the Minister of Sports and Public Recreation, Gamini Lokuge during a colourful ceremony that included a colourful display by the Budawatte Dancing Troupe.

Finals will be at 2.00 p.m. today and awards ceremony at 5.00 p.m.
