President Mahinda Rajapaksa made a surprise appearance amidst the crowds gathered in the city of Kandy to see the fourth Randoli Perahera about two hours before it began to parade the streets. Even the security personnel were surprised at the President’s sudden arrival opposite Queen’s Hotel. Having walked there from the President’s House in Kandy he spent about twenty minutes in conversation with the people who were overjoyed to see him. President tells masses:

The people irrespective of their political or communal differences should actively be involved in rebuilding the country after it was liberated from the clutches of terrorism , said President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said the Security Forces without having an inch of land of their own made the supreme sacrifice for the liberation of one third of the country’s land area which was delegated to the terrorists by a title 2 1\2 years ago.

Pasyala bus crash injures 44

School children among injured, nine critical:

At least 44 including several schoolchildren were injured when a school bus and a passenger bus collided head on in Pasyala last morning. Nine of the injured are in a critical condition. Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said students of Thakshila Vidyalaya from Gampaha on a trip to Kandy met with this accident in Pasyala along the Colombo-Kandy highway around 7.30am. The ill-fated private bus was plying from Mawanella to Colombo.

Drug world out to grab LTTE cartel

Eventhough the LTTE’s drug smuggling activities are currently at a standstill due to the total annihilation of the terrorist outfit in Sri Lankan soil, other drug lords will soon vie for the drug market the LTTE created, says a former Director General of India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
