School Essay Competition on cinema
As a part of the campaign to upgrade student's knowledge in cinema,
the National Film Corporation has taken measures to hold a School Essay
competition on cinema. The contest will be held under three categories:
O\L students (year 10 and 11), A\L students (year 12 and 13) and those
engaged in higher education (those studying in Government as well as any
other authorized organization).
The topic are:
* For O\L students - Compare and contrast the works of any two of the
following filmmakers: Lester James Peries, Udayakantha Warnasuriya, H.D.
Premaratne or Tissa Abeysekara. (1000 words)
* For A\L students - How was Sinhala cinema influenced by global
cinema? (1500 words)
* Students engaged in higher studies - Sinhala cinema in the 50s
during the 20th century and Sinhala cinema in the first decade in the
21st century. (2000 words)
The contestants are free to send their essays in critical format or
expressing the information in facts.
The essay should be written in clear handwriting on one side of an A4
sheet. Leave 1 1/2 inch column blank on the left hand side of the sheet.
The writer should certify that the essay is his or her own work and that
it had not been sent to any other competition beforehand.
The name, age, personal address, school address and the class of the
student should be stated in the form. If possible state a contact
number. The principal should or head of the educational institute should
certify that the essay had been written by the student.
The first, second and third place winners will be chosen from each
category. The essays should reach: The Manager of cinema cultural
sector, Sri Lanka National Film Corporation, No. 303, Bauddhaloka
