IDLO seminar
The Alumni Association of the International Development Law
Organization (IDLO) Sri Lanka has organized a Seminar on
"Responsibilities of Directors in an adverse financial climate" on
Friday, August 7 from 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Cinnamon Grand.
In the present environment, Directors shoulder the burden of
navigating the company using their knowledge, skills and experience. In
turbulent times, such as during the current global recession, the
responsibility of Directors to keep the company vessel steady is bound
to weigh on them even more.
There are no 'across the board' solutions, as the individual
circumstances of the company will determine the role played by its
Directors.
There are however, certain fundamental legal and regulatory issues,
which, if recognized by Directors as essential for the company's
continuity, will invariably help to overcome the adverse effects of a
downturn in the economy. The interactive seminar attempts to highlight
some of these fundamental issues.
It will be an interactive seminar with presentations made by eminent
Resource Personnel representing the industry's regulator, public and
private sectors followed by a question and answer session.
The topics/issues that will be discussed at the seminar will be
Regulatory issues and the need for compliance; Corporate criminality;
Compliance with the Provisions of the Companies Act; Fiduciary role of
Directors; and Corporate Governance and Best Practices.
The Seminar is forgeted at Directors, Senior Managers, Corporate
Advisors such as lawyers, accountants, auditors and for those interested
in corporate and regulatory affairs. |
