Science College clinch Matale Schools six-a-side tourney

Government Science College, Matale created a major upset when they defeated their traditional rivals and the more fancied St. Thomas College, Matale by 22 runs to clinch the Matale District Cricket Association’s President’s Trophy in the finals of the Matale Schools six-a-side cricket tournament played at the Bernard Aluwihare Stadium in Matale.

The results from the semi-finals:

Government Science College beat Weerakeppetipola Central College, Akuramboda by four wickets. Weerakeppetipola Central College 49 for 4 in 5 overs (P. Fernando 28, K. Dharmasiri 19, N. Tilina 1 for 7, H. Madusanka 1 for 9) Government Science College 50 for 1 in 4.1 overs (D.N. Deshapriya 29, P. Yohan 10, P.S. Fernando 1 for 9)

St. Thomas College beat Christ Church College by four wickets. (Christ Church College 58 for 4 wickets in 5 overs (P.H. Kushal 43 not out, R.P. Kellepotha 2 for 5, C.B. Jayatilleke 1 for 8)

St. Thomas College 60 for 1 in 3.9 overs (C.B. Jayatilleke 39, R.P. Kellepotha 10 not out, P.H. Kushal 1 for 11).

Finals

Government Science College beat St. Thomas College by 22 runs. Government Science College 66 for 2 in 5 overs (P. Yohan 23, N. Tilina 18, D.N. Deshapriya 12, R.P. Kellepotha 1 for 14, F. Dilruwan 1 for 9)

St. Thomas College 44 for 2 in 5 overs (C.B. Jayatilleke 27 not out, R.P. Kellepotha 10 not out, N. Tilina 1 for 18)
