LTTE mastermind in A’pura Air Base attack arrested
The mastermind behind the attack on Anuradhapura Air Force Base has
been arrested by the officers of the Central Province Intelligence Unit
on information given by the LTTE suspects in custody.
Rasalingam Thaboruban, 26, of Kankasanthurai was among the displaced
civilians in the Mannar district when the arrest was made by a special
team of officials attached to the Central Province Intelligence Unit.
An LTTE suicide squad launched an attack on the Anuradhapura Air
Force Base on January 27, 2007 at about 3.20 a.m. while the LTTE light
aircraft were carrying out air sorties targeting the Air Base. This
attack resulted in damaging of over 10 aircraft belonging to the SLAF.
Rasalingam in his confession to the Security Forces has said a team
of 25 LTTE cadres was assigned to launch an attack on the Anuradhapura
Air Base and they had to gather information on how to access the Air
Base for days.
He has been engaged in spying in the Silvaturai, Malwathu Oya ,
Nuwarawewa and Saliyapura areas as a sheperd before the attack on the
Air Force Base.
This suicide squad dividing into several sub units has reached the
Air Force Base and the suspect Rasalingam has informed the LTTE Air Wing
through hitec communication equipment to carry out air sorties targeting
the Air Force Base.
He has been assigned to video the entire attack. Rasalingam has
vediod the attack till 5.30 a.m and left the place with two suicide
cadres.
He has received special training as a leader of Radha Brigade.
