Isipatana clinch Zahira Group of 60 Rugby Sevens

The Isipatana under 19 rugby team clinched the Zahira College Group of 60s Sevens Rugby Trophy when they beat St. Peter's by 12 points (one goal, one try) to 7 (one goal) in a nerve tingling final played at the CR and FC grounds on July 25.

Both teams played their hearts out and all scoring was done before half time. For Isipatana the try scorers were skipper Niroshan Fernando and Ashan Gallage one try each while the only try for St. Peter's College was planted by Danushka Ranjan under the post.

More than 120 participants from 12 leading schools took aprt in this colourful tournament which was well organised for the second year by the Zahira Group of 60s headed by M. S. Mazeer (Chairman, Organising Committee).

The principal sponsor is Harcourts Group of Companies and the co-sponsor was Diamond Food Products.

The chief guest Ahamed Rheyas (Chairman/CEO Harcourts (Pvt) Ltd), Sama Macan Markar (Past President Group of 60s), Fouzul Hameed (Chairman Board of Governors Zahira), Justice Saleem Marsoof (Imm. Past President Zahira Group of 60s) and Ansar Hamdoon (Past Zahira and CH and FC player) also graced the occasion.

The results: CUP - Isipatana beat St. Peter's College 12 points to 7. PLATE - C. W. W. Kannangara College, Borella beat Royal College Panadura 20 points to 12. BOWL - Dharmarajah College (Kandy) beat Prince of Wales (Moratuwa) 64 points to nil. The most outstanding player was M. Rizwan of Isipatana, who received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

The final was handled by M. Mushtaq.
