The Ministry of Plantation Industries held discussions with ambassadors of tea importing countries to obtain higher prices for good quality teas produced by Sri Lanka reaching the world market. Compared to the prices of tea in January this year, Sri Lanka’s teas have fetched higher prices in the world market. Teas fetched around Rs. 280 per kg in January, while it has now increased to around Rs. 320 per kg. During the past six months Sri Lanka has produced over 130 million kgs of tea. According to a report of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, tea production last month alone was 23.6 million kgs while the total production in the first six months last year was 171.8 million Kgs.
