Beruwala back to normal

The situation in the Beruwala area where two persons were killed and another 10 sustained critical injuries following a clash between two Muslim groups had returned to normal by yesterday morning.

According to SSP Ranjith Gunasekera the curfew imposed in Mahagoda, Maligahena and Maradana was lifted yesterday. No incidence of violence were reported in the area since yesterday morning, he said.

The Masjidul Rahuman Mosque at Beruwala where a traditional ritual was being held on Sunday, came under attack by a rival Muslim group. The members of this group has stormed into this mosque and started assaulting the devotees with clubs.

The Police said 30 persons received minor injuries in the attack. Over 108 people were arrested by the Police following the incident, SSP Gunasekera said.
