President inspects Upper Kotmale Hydro Electricity Scheme

President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the Upper Kotmale Hydro
Electricity scheme site on an inspection tour yesterday morning. The
President was accompanied by Ministers John Seneviratne, Mahindananda
Athugamage and Keheliya Rambukwella, Central Province Governor Tikiri
Kobbekaduwa, Additional Secretary to the President Gamini Senerath and
Power and Energy Ministry Secretary M.M.C. Ferdinando.
A Presidential Media Unit release said the 150 megawatt Upper Kotmale
Hydro Electricity Project is expected to produce 409 million units of
electricity annually. The Japanese Bank for International Co-operation
has provided 33,265 million yen towards this project. Work on the 13
Kilometre tunnel with a 5.2 metre radius is now nearing completion.
The President inspected the project site including the tunnel during
the tour yesterday. |
