School for the Deaf, Ratmalana bags two titles

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana did well by annexing two Caltex Champions trophies at the Deaf Schools Sports Activities held recently.

The netball and six-a-side softball cricket tournaments were held at the Shalika grounds, Narahenpita, while the volleyball tournament (boys and girls) was held at the school for the deaf grounds, Ratmalana.

These sporting events were organised by the Deaf School Past Pupils' Association, The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana under Shivantha Vivekanandan, President and Chairman of the Organising Committee and sponsored by Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC.

Rohana Special School, Matara won the Caltex Champion trophy for the volleyball (girls) title while Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa was awarded the Caltex Champions trophy for the volleyball (boys).

Cricket - Semi finals: Sri Sudharshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela beat Sayan Deaf School, Matale.

Sri Sudarshi Deaf and Blind School: 61 for 4 in 5 overs.

Sayan Deaf School: 18 runs all out in 3.4 overs.

The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Rohana Special School, Matara. Rohana Special School: 24 runs all out in 3.2 overs.

The School for the Deaf: 28 runs for 3 in 3.3 overs.

Finals: The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Sri Sudarshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela. The School for the Deaf: 68 runs for 2 in 5 overs.

Sri Sudarshi Deaf and Blind School: 12 runs all out in 2.3 overs.

Best Batsman - Akila Sandaruwan (School for the Deaf, Ratmalana).

Best Bowler - Suranga Sandaruwan (Sri Sudharshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela).

Best Fielder - Lahiru Madusanka (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana).

Man of the Match - Lahiru Madusanka (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana).

Netball - Semi finals: The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Sandagala Special School, Kurunegala 21-2.

Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa beat Sri Sudharshi Deaf and Blind School, Bandarawela 15-3.

Finals: The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana beat Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa 12-10.

Best Player - Jayamali Dilrukshi (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana).

Best Shooter - Himali Isurumathi (The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana).

Volleyball (boys) -

Rohana Special School, Matara beat Yasodara Deaf and Blind School, Balangoda.

Finals: Rohana Special School, Matara beat Siviraja Deaf and Blind School, Mahawewa.

Best player - Janidha Ushari Lakpriya (Rohana Special School, Matara).

Bertram Paul, General Manager - Sales and Marketing, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC was the chief guest while Ensith Fernando, Manager, The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana was the guest of honour at the Deaf Schools netball and six-a-side softball cricket tournament.

S. Peiris, Asst. Director, Dept. of Sports Development was the chief guest while Thusitha de Silva was the guest of honour at the deaf schools volleyball tournament.
