Galle MC Opposition Leader shot dead

Galle Municipal Council Opposition Leader Dushantha Seneviratne (40)
was gunned down by unknown suspects yesterday morning in Beligaha
junction, Galle. Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said
Seneviratne was shot dead by two unidentified persons who arrived on a
motorcycle around 7.15am.
“Seneviratne who dropped his two children at school was getting into
his car after buying a news paper when he was targeted by the gunmen”,
he added.
The incident had occurred in Beligaha junction along the Galle-
Karapitiya road.
He said that two suspects fled the area and the motorcycle has not
been traced yet.
“He was shot dead with a 9mm pistol at close range. Seven 9mm
cartridges were found at the crime scene”, he added. Two special police
teams were deployed to conduct the investigation.
The magisterial inquest was carried out by Galle Magistrate Geethani
Wijesinghe at the Karapitiya hospital.
D. Seneviratne was first elected to the Galle MC in 1997 and became
its Opposition Leader last year. He was a father of four.
