When students are admitted to Government schools, no payment should
be made on any account as it is strictly prohibited by the Education
Ministry. However, payments could be made as facilities fees or to
school development societies, the Ministry said. Accordingly,
educationists, especially the Principals of the Government Schools have
been made aware that receiving cash donations is illegal when admitting
students to any class be it Grade one, Grade five or Advanced Level.
Moreover parents are strictly requested by the Education Ministry,
not to make any payment to the school or the Principal in the form of
contributions to school development.
"But payments could be made as facilities fees and donations to the
School Development Societies.
If parents are requested to make any cash donations for admitting
students to schools they are requested to inform either the Provincial
Education Office or the Education Department. Then the Education
Department will take immediate steps into the complaint. The parents are
bound to inform the relevant authorities since it is every child's right
to a free education" Education Ministry sources said.
The Education Ministry further points out that all Principals and
educationists should protect the dignity of Free Education which mean's
equal education for all.
