Physics and Astronomy Olympiads

The National Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad Competition-2009 and the Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition-2009 will be held on July 18, 2009, the Institute of Physics Sri Lanka said. The examination centres are at the Departments of Physics in the Universities of Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Batticaloa and Jaffna. School children who have applied to participate at those Olympiad competitions are requested to visit the examination centres that they have applied even if they have not received the admissions yet. The Physics Olympiad competition will commence at 9.00 a.m. and the Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad competition will commence at 11.00 a.m.

Communist Party celebrations

The 66th Anniversary Celebrations of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka will be held on July 19, 2009 at the Old Market Premises, Nupe, Matara.

Constitutional Affairs and National Integration Minister DEW Goonesekara, Home Affairs Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera and Democratic Left Front Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara will address the anniversary celebration.


Felicitation ceremony

St. Aloysius College, Galle Old Boys' Association (OBA) Colombo Branch has organised a ceremony to felicitate its past and present teachers at St. Aloysius College Hall, Galle on July 25.


Awards Ceremony

Over 500 students out of 1,000 who sat for the International Primary/Junior/Secondary School examinations will receive awards at a ceremony at the Kurunegala Town Hall on July 20 at 9.30 a.m. to noon. Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka, will be the Chief Guest while MP Salinda Dissanayake will be the Guest of Honour.

Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, will also participate.


Wesleyites' get-together

A get-together of Wasleyites will be held on July 18 (tomorrow) at the College premises from 9.30 a.m.

An exclusive 'Proud to be a Wesleyite' certificate will be awarded to every Wesleyite present.


New VC for Peradeniya University

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed Prof. S.B.S. Abeykoon as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya for three years from August 1, 2009.
