India to call for fight against terrorism

INDIA: India will raise the issue of international terrorism at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit to be held in Egypt from Wednesday, said an official of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Tuesday evening.

"The NAM meeting is taking place at a very crucial juncture in international affairs. And terrorism is very much on India's NAM agenda," said the high level official while pleading anonymity.

He said terrorism is "in the first rank of global issues which confront the international community" today.

"We do believe that this is an important meeting. The voice of NAM will make a contribution to the resolution of the issues that the international community faces at this juncture, particularly that of cross border terrorism," the official stated. India will also advocate strongly the adoption of the UN Comprehensive Convention against International Terrorism drafted in 1996, he said.
