The Eastern Province annual sports meet was held at the Ampara Public Playground from July 10 to July 12. Here Eastern Province Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickreme who was the chief guest on the final day presenting the championship trophy to the captain of the Batticaloa District team which won the overall championship. Provincial Minister M.L.A.M. Hisbullah was also present.


Portugal leads medals table

The second Lusofonia Games which began in Lisbon three days ago completed its first stage when they concluded the athletic events on a grand scale. Portugal, the host country took the lead in the medals table while Brazil and Sri Lanka took the next two spots.

India wins bid for 2013 games

The organizing committee of the Lusofonia Games which met last evening has unanimously decided to have the Games once in four years instead of once in two years. The Committee also finalized the decision to hold the next Games in the year 2013. The three bidders for this Games were Sri Lanka, Brazil and India.

Moratuwa Vidyalaya beat Revatha College, Balapitiya by six wickets in their inter-school under-17 Division one second round match organised by SLSCA and played at Moratuwa.
