New Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe assumed duties at a colourful ceremony at the Navy Headquarters yesterday where former Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda bade farewell to his troops.

Admiral Karannagoda signed the visitors’ book, after which a religious ceremony was held at the Navy Commander’s office to bid him farewell.

Outgoing Navy Commander Admiral Karannagoda after relinquishing duties handed over his sword to his successor Vice Admiral Samarasinghe. Karannagoda later assumed duties as the National Security Advisor to the President. He served as Navy Commander for three years and eight months.

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe is the 16th Navy Commander in the Sri Lanka Navy’s illustrious history which spans over 59 years.
