Peterites Under-15 Tennis Champs

St. Peter's College, won the recently concluded under-15 All Island Inter School Tennis Championship at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts last week.

The Peterites completely and convincingly dominated the entire tournament to clinch the championship trophy. In this particular age group there was no real opposition for the formidable Peterite side.

St. Peter's which has been performing consistently well in the schools tennis arena in the recent times once again showed their supremacy on the court.

In this tournament where about 20 teams took part including teams from the outstation schools was competitive from the start. In the group stages Peterites won with authority against all their eight opponents. They beat Issipathana College, Colombo, St. Michael's College, Batticaloa, St. Benedict's College, Colombo, St. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, St. Joseph's College, Colombo and Karandeniya Central College, Galle. Zahira College, Colombo conceded a walk over to the Peterites. All eight schools were comprehensively beaten by the Peterites and against each school St. Peter's College registered a win of 35 nil. Peterites finished first in the group amassing a total of 280 without conceding a single point to any school. S. Thomas's College, Mount Lavinia finished second in the same group receiving a point tally of 180.

In the other group Ananda College topped the group and Royal College finished second. Therefore, in the semifinals Peterites had to play Royal College, Colombo in the semi-finals. They went on to comfortably defeat Royal College 3 nil. In the other semi final Ananda College beat St. Thomas's College, Mount Lavinia after a close contest.

After the semi-finals the final were worked out between St. Peter's College and Ananda College. Peterites with their three Sri Lankan caps dominated the game convincingly to walk away with the championship trophy effortlessly.

Peterites were led by Aritha Weerasinghe, a Sri Lankan player. The two other Sri Lankan players in the Peterite team are the Vice Captain Aaron Assauw and Nishangan Nadarajah. With such a star studded team, the Peterite march to conquer the Championship could not be prevented by any and was an inevitable one.

Peterites are coached by K.D.Y. Pathiraja who has been with St. Peter's College for more than a decade, and is responsible for much of the Peterite success story.
