A series of discussions between Plantation Industries Minister D. M.
Jayaratne and Cuban Ambassador Nirsia Castro Guevara was held recently
at the Ministry. As a result, a proposal to exchange expertise and
technical services of both countries had been made by Ambassador Guevara
to Minister Jayaratne.
At the meeting, Minister revealed that the initial steps had already
been taken by the Ministry to popularize the coconut based products
around the world. The products will be exported to Middle East countries
as well as European countries.
The Minister pointed out that the price of tea, coconut and rubber
had increased during past several years and plantation sector workers
could earn a good income.
The Cuban Ambassador assured that she will extend Cuban assistance to
develop the country's plantation sector too.
