Work almost over on rest hall at Sanchi Viharaya

Work is nearing completion on the proposed rest hall (Vishrama Salawa) built at Sanchi Viharaya in Bopal, India under the guidance of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister and MEP leader Dinesh Gunawardena.

The project estimated to cost Rs. 82 million will help enhance existing cordial relations between Sri Lanka and India, Gunawardena said in a communique yesterday.

He said the three storeyed modern complex will be equipped with all common amenities including 24 double rooms, water and electricity supply, sanitary facilities and access roads.

It is hoped to open this facility in time for the next Indian pilgrimage season.

The Minister thanked Sanchi Viharadhipati Ven. Banagala Upatissa Sanghanayaka Thera, State Government of Madya Pradesh, Indian High Commission and the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry for their support and co-operation towards the successful completion of this project.
