Calligraphy and painting classes
Calligraphy and painting classes conducted by a Sri Lankan artist at
the Cultural Section of the Iran Embassy has commenced after the
vacation.
The classes are conducted on all working days, Monday to Friday, from
3.00 p.m. onwards at the auditorium of the Cultural Section of the
Embassy in Colombo 7.
Students interested are requested to call over at the auditorium of
the Cultural Section of the Embassy at No. 6 Sir Ernest de Silva Mawatha,
Colombo 7. Details regarding these classes may be obtained by calling
the Cultural Section on 2575680-1.
Candidates given numbers
Chaminda Perera
The Elections Department yesterday completed the granting of
preferential numbers to candidates contesting the forthcoming Uva
Provincial and Jaffna and Vavuniya Local Government elections.
The period given by the Department to accept the postal vote
application from the Government servants in the Uva Province and Jaffna
Municipal and Vavuniya Urban council areas ended yesterday.
Acceptance of applications from the voters living outside the
Vavuniya Urban and Jaffna Municipal Council areas due to the terrorist
atrocities also ended yesterday.
He said the Department expects to establish polling stations outside
the area where elections are held in the Northern Province to enable
them to vote.
Pirith ceremony
The Voet Inn Union of the Sri Lanka Law College will hold its Annual
pirith chanting ceremony on July 3 and an alms giving on July 4 at the
hostel premises.
Commerce Day - 2009
The Advanced Level students of St. Clare’s College have organized
their Annual Commerce Day which will be held on July 3 in the school
Main Hall commencing at 1.30 p.m. The chief guest will be Dr. Sampath
Amaratunga, the Dean of the Management and Commerce Faculty of Sri
Jayawardanapura University.
Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on ‘Can the mind be free from error?’
delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at
the Study Centre, Beddagana, Duwa Road, Kotte on July 5 at 10.30 a.m.
All night pirith at Prince of Wales
Prince of Wales College, School Development Society in collaboration
with the Prince of Wales College Old Boys’ Association has organized an
all night pirit ceremony on July 4 at the College hall followed by a
heel dana for 60 Bhikkus to invoke blessings on their Old Boys of Three
Armed Services and the Police who sacrificed their lives for the sake of
the Motherland.
Thomian Walk
S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia - Thomian Walk 2009 will commence at
4.30 p.m. from St. Paul’s Milagiriya Junction and it will end at the
College grounds on July 11 by 6.30 p.m. |
