Minor floods in Ratnapura

Minor floods were reported at Ratnapura yesterday with the heaviest rainfall of 119 millimeters at Gileemale near Sri Pada and the rains were still continuing, District Secretary for Ratnapura S. M. Nandasena told the Daily News yesterday (30).

A flash flood increased the water level by about six feet at midnight on Monday and the public have been warned to be ready for immediate evacuation through mobile public address systems if flood levels rise further.

Flood water levels had already risen to 18 feet in the Kaluganga the minor flood level, he said.
