Ninthavur hospital completed
With the opening of reconstructed and renovated two hospital
buildings damaged by the tsunami and newly constructed State of the art
three-storied building at Ninthavur Divisional Hospital, Ampara people
in Ninthavur and its surrounding area now have access to improved health
care services.
The Finnish Red Cross (FRC), in cooperation with the Sri Lanka Red
Cross Society (SLRCS), International Federation of the Red Cross and Red
Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Health Ministry financially supported
for the hospital development project that cost over 214 million rupees.
The Ninthavur Divisional Hospital now boasts an up to date
out-patients department with an emergency treatment unit, a laboratory,
a minor operation theatre, a maternity ward, medical, surgical and
paediatric wards, a channelling centre, a medical, surgical and general
store as well as an administrative unit.
The Red Cross will also supply adequate medical equipment and
furniture for the hospital, a safe and acceptable waste water treatment
system and a solid waste management system.
The guests at the opening ceremony were National Secretary of the Sri
Lanka Red Cross Society S.H. Nihal Kumar, Chairman of Ampara SLRCS
branch Sunil Disanayake, Director of International Operations, FRC Kalle
Loovi, Movement Coordinator for the International Federation of the Red
Cross and Red Crescent Mieke Van Pouckc and Philip Hayes, Field
Representative for Batticaloa and Ampara from the ICRC. |
