No letters from Education Dept.

The Education Department will not issue letters to parents for admission of children to national schools for any reason, Education Ministry Secretary, Nimal Bandara said.

No student will be given priority by issuing letters by the Education Ministry discontinuing the prevailing practice.

Normally students are not admitted to national schools other than at year one, five and Advanced Level classes. Eventhough the Education Ministry has been issuing letters on requests made by various parties asking the principals to admit students in the past, no such letters will be issued.

However, it has been reported that this situation has caused various administrative and academic problems such as exceeding the maximum number of students in the class.
