Michael Jackson, a true legend

I'm sure it was a shock for all Jackson fans to hear the icon's untimely demise. He was undoubtedly a true legend of our time who held the crown of pop music till the moment of his death. I'm sure many of us have not seen him in real but he lived in our minds through the healing power of his songs.

All his creations had a message to the world and were focused on innocent groups such as children, women, poor and war affected. Through his creations people started to open their eyes on war, discrimination, pollution, hunger and number of social and cultural issues that have divided the world and have resulted in human sufferings.

For most people, Jackson was a difficult person to understand and I believe some of his unusual behaviour was partly due to the hardships he had gone through as a child. It is not a secret that Jackson did not have the best of childhoods.

Both his family environment and popularity were reasons of him not enjoying his child days probably as much as we did.

I believe Jackson being a person who missed his happiness during childhood wanted to regain all that happiness when he got the chance to be independent from his family. As a result, even as a young adult he became closer to children rather than youth of his own age.

His house was open to kids and was full of cartoon characters and animals. It gives the impression that though he had money and popularity there was something missing in his life that he really wanted.

It is quite pity to imagine the unpleasant moments he had gone through in the recent past which even made his fans confused about his character and future. But I'm sure Michael Jackson will be remembered by millions of his fans around the world as the "greatest pop star of all time" and though Michael is no more with us his unparallel creations will be there forever.

Thank you Jackson and may you rest in peace.

- Pujitha Perera
