Sri Lanka to host Asian Under 16 Shuttle tourney

Asian Under-16 Junior Badminton Continental Championships to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from August 3 to 9, 2009.

This is the first occasion in the 50 year history of Sri Lanka Badminton that a continental championships has been awarded to Sri Lanka.

China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Iran, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Pakistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos and Sri Lanka (17 Nations) will take part in this championships.

All matches will be played at St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia Badminton Courts while the Mount Lavinia Hotel will be the official hotel for the visiting teams and officials.

Achini Ratnasiri and Upuli Samanthika will be the top seeds of Sri Lanka’s Under 16 Badminton team.

The official launch of the International Website for the Asian Under-16 Youth Badminton Continental Championships will be held under the distinguished patronage of Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge at Hilton Residences, Banquet Hall tomorrow evening.
