New Pradeshiya Sabha for Irakkamam

A new Pradeshiya Sabha, for Irakkamam has been established in the Digamadulla district by Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon.

The new PS was constituted with the powers vested in the Minister under the Pradeshiya Sabha Act, No. 15 of 1987 through the extraordinary gazette notification issued on June 12.

Commenting on the newly formed PS, Minister Tennakoon said the new PS will pave the way to implement the development activities of the area more efficiently and help to identify public needs of the area.

Irakkamam PS will have an elected Chairman,Vice Chairman and five elected members. The term of office of the newly formed PS will commence on April 15, 2010 and the election for the PS will be held before April 15, 2010.

Along with the establishment of Irakkamam new PS, the total number of PS will be increased up to 271 and the total local bodies of the country will be 331.
