Hewavitharana MV U-17 soccer champs

Hewavitharana MV, Kotte carried away the all island under 17 schools football championship beating Sugatha MV, Kalutara 4-2 in a tie breaker after the match ended in a nil-all draw at St. Benedict's College ground recently.

Three hundred and twenty one school teams from all parts of the country participated in the preliminary round matches and twenty teams qualified to compete the final round games. A total of 29 matches were conducted at the Kotahena ground inclusive of the final.

Rev. Bro. Granville Perera, Director, St. Benedict's College, Kotahena and President of the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association was the chief guest at the final and gave away the awards. Football Federation of Sri Lanka conducted the tournament.

Results:

Semi-finals: Sugatha MV, Kalutara beat St. Aloysius College, Ratnapura (1-1) on tie breaker 4-1. Hewavitharana MV, Kotte beat Wayamba Royal 1-0.

Play-off: St. Aloysius College Ratnapura beat Wayamba Royal 4-2 (tie breaker).

Final: Hewavitharana MV beat Sugatha MV (0-0). 4-2 (tie breaker).
