Ranaviru Upahara Week at Ananda College
Ananda College Colombo is currently conducting a 'Ranaviru Upahara
Week' to pay tribute to Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and other
Old Anandian War Heroes and Police personnel who played a sterling role
in the humanitarian operations which helped to defeat the LTTE and
liberate the country from terrorism.
The week's celebrations which began on June 22 are due to conclude on
June 29, said Ananda Principal D.M.L.P. Dissanayake.
Among the Old Anandians honoured during this ceremony are Army
Commander General Sarath Fonseka, Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha
Karannagoda, Civil Security Service Director General Rear Admiral Sarath
Weerasekera, Maj. Gen. Jagath Dias, Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratna, Brig.
Prasanna Silva and Brig. Chagi Gallage.
Principal Dissanayake said the program includes a series of lectures
for students from Grades One to 13 daily from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. at
the Kuleratne Hall by eminent persons including members of the clergy
and Parliamentarians.
The lecture program which began on June 22 will continue till July 1.
The school's broadcasting unit has also arranged to broadcast a voice
casts of the renowned Old Anandians who actively contributed to the
Security Forces victory from the battlefront.
Concurrent to this, the Old Anandians Buddhist Association arranged a
series of over 100 dhammadesana at temples countrywide on Esala Full
Moon Poya day to commemorate War Heroes. This program concluded with a
Sanghika dana to 25 members of the Sangha on June 25.
The Ananda College website will also be opened today at a ceremony at
the school premises. |
