People's Bank Manager granted bail

Pilapitiya on Wednesday granted bail to a suspect who is a People's Bank
Manager, who was produced by the CID in connection with transferring
Government funds to another account of the same bank.
The CID investigations had revealed that the suspect had not
withdrawn any money from those accounts. Granting bail the Judge
directed the suspect to furnish cash bail in a sum of Rs.25,000 and a
bond of Rs.40 million with two sureties.
Senior Attorney Anil Silva who appeared for the People's Bank
submitted that the draft deposited at the bank had been stolen from
Canada and produced at the People's Bank in Sri Lanka.
Several other suspects who are alleged to have been involved in the
same transaction were produced by the CID, and were later granted bail.
The Judge remanded the suspect who is alleged to have produced the
stolen Bank draft at the Bank, till July 8.
Sarath Siriwardena, Deemani Baddewela, Shanaka Ranasinghe and
Kingsley Hettiarachchi appeared for the suspects. The case will be
called again on July 8.
