Lanka gets Egmont Group membership
The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Central Bank of Sri
Lanka obtained membership of the Egmont Group, at its recent annual
meeting in Doha, Qatar.
The Egmont Group is an association of FIUs established in 1995.
Its membership now stands at 116. Obtaining memberships of the Egmont
Group enables Sri Lanka's FIU to develop vital relationships to
facilitate exchange of financial intelligence with other FIUs.
It also enables to foster global partnerships in combating money
laundering and terrorist financing.
Since money laundering and terrorist financing are often globally
organized, global cooperation of FIUs is a key strategy to deal with
such activities.
At the Egmont Group meeting in Doha, Sri Lanka also signed a
Memorandum of Understanding with the FIU of Indonesia for the exchange
of financial information. |
