Police recover more hidden arms

Police Intelligence Unit uncovered a cache of arms, suicide kits and
46kg of C4 explosives yesterday hidden inside a jungle in Veppankulam
area, Vauniya.
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said acting on information
from three LTTE suspects arrested, Western Province Intelligence Unit
and Vavuniya police have recovered the arms and explosives. Police
unearthed 46kg of C4 explosives, a claymore mine weighing 14.5kg, two
claymore mines weighing 2.7kg, three claymore stands, 45 electronic
detonator cord, wire roll, a gas cylinder, a plastic barrel and two hand
grenades.
In the same areas, the Vavuniya police has recovered a suicide kit
weighing 10kg, three suicide kits each weighing 3kg, three detonator
cords, 33 electric detonators, a remote antenna and two timers.
Meanwhile, the Terrorist Investigation Division unearthed a stock of
arms from the LTTE Baskaran camp in Kuchchaweli, Trincomalee on Monday.
SSP Gunasekera said the TID jointly conducting a search operation
with the Trincomalee police in the Kumburupitiya area has found 120 of
182mm mortar bombs, three claymore mines, 18,000 T56 ammunition and
5,500 MPMG ammunition. |
