Noticed to show cause

Mount Lavinia Additional District Judge Macki Mohamed yesterday issued notice on the Leader Publications and two others, Lal Wickrematunga and journalist Fredrica Jansz, to appear in Court on July 9 and to show cause why they should not be dealt for contempt of Court.

Uva polls: UPFA confident of victory

UPFA General Secretary and Education Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday handed over the UPFA nominations for the Uva Provincial Council election to Badulla District Retuning officer Rohana Keerthi Dissanayake and Moneragala District Assistant Returning Officer Namal Thalangama at the Badulla and Moneragala district secretariats.

Dengue eradication: PHIs seek police protection

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is seeking the assistance of 19 police stations in the city to curb the dengue menace as some of the Public Health Inspectors who had gone to inspect premises had been threatened by certain residents, Commissioner Badrani Jayawardana told the Daily News yesterday.

Rs. 1,058m worth projects for displaced children’s education

Concurrent to the Uthuru Vasanthaya Northern Development Program launched by the Government to bring normality to the lives of people displaced from terrorism in the North, the Government has launched projects worth Rs. 1,058 million to provide higher education facilities to children of the displaced funded by the ADB and the World Bank.
