Kaffirs at the Barefoot

The Kaffirs will play at the Barefoot Cafe on June 27 that will feature a talented 12-piece band from Sirambiyadiya (near Puttalam) who will reveal the true essence of their rendition of 'baila' passed from generation to generation by their Portugese colonisers.

Preserving their musical traditions only within the community, they performed in November last year at the same venue which was a big hit. This weekend, Sri Lankans will be treated to a gorge of African rhythms and a multitude of melodic music to take you back in time.

The Kaffir people are descendents of African slaves brought to the island by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British, becoming more acquainted with the Sinhalese and Tamil culture. In a bid to keep their traditions alive and enlighten Sri Lankans in their culture, the concert will be a good revelation of the diverse ethnicities that make Sri Lanka home to different races and people.

Make sure you check them out at Barefoot Cafe and sway to their rhythm of merry!
