Defending champions Kandy Sports Club and the formidable CR and FC remain the only unbeaten teams after the conclusion of the penultimate week-end's matches of the first round of the Caltex 'A' Division League Rugby Tournament.

Kandy Sports Club beat Havelocks Sports Club by the staggering margin of 73 points to 10 on Sunday to notch up their sixth successive win having earlier overcome Navy (36-5), Air Force (27-6), Police (67-16), Army (30-9) and CH and FC (37-3) in their bid to retain the Caltex 'A' Division League Title for a record ninth successive year.

Their closest challengers CR and FC scored a hard fought 17-10 win over CH and FC on Friday at Maitland Crescent having earlier beaten Air Force (16-0), Police (54-3), Havelocks (57-12), Navy (32-10) and Army (43-8) to remain in contention for the Caltex 'A' Division League Title which has eluded them for the last 10 years.

Kandy and CR and FC remain the only teams in contention for the League Title and the clash between these two teams on June 28 (Sunday) at Longden Place should turn out to be a thriller.

The Sri Lanka Army which is enjoying one of their best seasons in recent years overcame the Air Force by 20 points to 8 at Police Park on Saturday to notch up their fourth win for the season having earlier beaten Havelocks (33-0), Navy (15-10) and CH and FC (21-12) to remain in third position.

The soldiers under the guidance of their Welsh coach Martin John are a vastly improved side and are poised to end up in third place at the conclusion of the 'A' Division League ahead of reputed clubs like CH and FC and Havelocks who finished in fourth and third place in the 2008 Caltex 'A' Division League.

The Sri Lanka Navy which is taking part in the Caltex 'A' Division League after a lapse of three years scored a smashing 27-3 win over Police at Welisara on Sunday to move upto fourth position having earlier notched up two impressive wins over CH and FC (18-12) and Air Force (27-3).
