Well done Sangakkara

Sangakkara took the grand occasion at Lords’ to address all in Sinhala bringing delirious cheering to Sri Lankan fans at the ground.

This is a pioneering gesture by Sangakkara who is an erudite and articulate speaker in English so much so that one English journalist wrote that one day he should become the UN High Commissioner due to his proficiency in English.

In a world where the norm for some Sinhalese is to forget the mother tongue the moment he or she could speak a few lines in English, Sangakkara’s courageous and patriotic attitude should be a shining example. It is the testament to the grand victory achieved by our forces that Sri Lankans are now embarking on a new era with utmost confidence and self belief.
