Four wild jumbo deaths in NWP

Four wild elephants have died after being shot, poisoned and electrocuted during the 2009, in the North Western Province. According to latest information and statistics of the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Meanwhile, eight injured wild elephants too are reported to be roaming about in Galgamuwa ad Nikaweratiya electorates of the Kurunegala District.

About 120 wild elephants are said to be roaming about in the areas outside the wildlife reserved areas. An injured tusker is also reported to be roaming in the Galgamuwa area.

Wildlife Conservation Department officials are looking for ways to protect these wild jumbos in these areas as they have faced rapid extinction at present, a senior official attached to the Regional office of Wildlife Conservation Department in Kurunegala told the Daily News.
