Public co-operation, a must to curb dengue

The control of dengue cannot be done by the Government alone, the public too should co-operate with Government agencies to eliminate this menace, Kalutara MOH Dr. Chitra Lenadora said.

Addressing a meeting of the staff at the Kalutara Secretariat organized by the Chairman of the Kalutara Urban Council and the Public Health Officers of the area, Dr. Lenadora said several Asian countries are affected by dengue. “We have been in the forefront with measures to prevent the spread of dengue with the proper maintenance of home gardens and the environment.

These measures should help to prevent not only dengue but other mosquito borne diseases like filaria and even rat fever. Health Department officials have worked with dedication and this has resulted in Kalutara District being one of the least affected areas.

The Chairman of the Kalutara Urban Council said that the children in five schools have been trained in how to prevent the spread of dengue and their services will be available when necessary.
