Missing child's body found in Ginganga

Mother's paramour arrested:

The body of a missing child was found in Ginganga and the alleged killer was arrested yesterday morning in Wennappuwa.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said the two and half year old boy was taken away from a daycare centre in Wennappuwa on Tuesday around 12.30 p.m. by a man who is living with his mother.

"The paramour took the child and vanished from the area.

When the infant's mother who is a clerk in a private school in Wennappuwa had come to pick her son, she was informed by the daycare centre that the child had been taken by his father," he added.

"The mother had lodged a complaint against her paramour at the Wennappuwa Police Station and Police arrested the suspect. The mother who is separated from her husband was living with the paramour in an apartment in Wennappuwa," SSP Gunasekera told the Daily News.

SSP Gunasekera said during interrogation, the suspect revealed information about kidnapping and murdering the child.

"He also disclosed his involvement in killing the child and said he had taken away the child from the daycare centre and took him to a bridge in Nainamadama and dropped him into Ginganga," he added.

The child's body was recovered the following morning from Ginganga.

The suspect was to be produced before the Wennappuwa Magistrate.
