Ecuador to elect Andean legislators
Ecuador: National Electoral Council (CNE) chairman Omar Simon on
Sunday opened the electoral process in Ecuador to elect five Andean
parliamentarians and 3,985 parish board members. This concern another
civic, democratic day, similar to that held April 26, in which more than
10,000 voters were convened to vote. The country will choose this time
Andean legislators and parish church representatives in rural zones,
Simon stressed.
Nearly 115 candidates from 23 parties and political movements are
competing for five posts in the Andean Parliament, while over 39,000
pretenders are for parochial representatives, the CNE president pointed
out.
Unlike April, when the country elected the president and
vicepresident, as well as 124 assembly members, mayors and prefects,
this time elections will be more easier, as there won't be several
voting papers.
Polling stations opened their doors at 07:00 hours (12:00 UTC) and
expect to close at 17:00 hours (22:00 UTC).
According to the Constitution, vote is obligatory for all people over
18.
The CNE states that each citizen will vote in the same premise or
polling station they did on April 26.
