People's Bank to rebuild land and lives in the North

The People's Bank will have on offer some financial aid specially developed to suit Internally Displaced People (IDPs) as fixed deposits, jewellery pawning, savings accounts, foreign fund transfer and micro financing assistance to rebuild shattered livelihoods of those engaged in fishing, dairy farming, cottage industries and agriculture, CEO/General Manager of People's Bank P.V. Pathirana said.


Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Deputy Governor Dr. Rani Jayamaha carrying out banking transactions with customers at the People’s Bank branch during their visit to the Cheddikulam relief village.

The bank has been serving the northern brethren with care and concern for decades despite the hardships and burdens heaped on them during the war with their presence in Atchuvely, Chavakachcheri, Chankanai, Chunnakam, Jaffna, Kannathiddy, Jaffna Main Street, Jaffna University, Jaffna Stanley Road, Kankesanthurai, Kayts, Nelliady, Point Pedro, Valvetithurai, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mankulam, Murunkan, Mallaitivu, Paranthan and Vavuniya.

"Now we're planning to be closer to them with the People's Banking Service Centres in Navalar Road, Pondithirippu, Kalviyankadu, Puloly, Kopay, Puttur and Uduppidy in Jaffna and Kurumankadu, Pesalai and Nanattan in the Wanni Area," said Head of Marketing and Public Affairs, People's Bank Deepal Abeysekera.

We've been a welcome relief to IDPs in Pareyanalamkulam, Anandakumaraswamy, Kadiragamar, Ramanathan and Arunasalam Relief Camps with our Mobile Units attending not only to their monetary well-being but also addressing their concern for the well-being of their loved ones through our overseas connections.

During the recent visit to the relief villages by the Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and other senior officers, they witnessed our banking operation in the relief villages and expressed their satisfaction," Pathirana said.
