Felicitating Robin
For more then four decades Robin Fernando had been one of the most
sought after actors of the decade so much so that his face still adores
many a television and cinema production. As a youth who had shown skills
towards sports and gymnastics, he was able to build an images of being
the ‘action man’ on screen.

Fourty-five years had elapsed since the ‘action hero’ of cinema had
taken to the screen. The National Film Corporation will hold a
felicitation ceremony for the veteran actor at the NFC ‘s Tharangani
cinema theatre on June 15 (today) at 4 p.m. NFC consultant T.M.
Sangadasa, veteran actress Malani Fonseka and veteran actor Jeevan
Kumaratunga will speak. A speical screening of clipses from the films
which the actor had taken part will be provided by Tissa Nagodawithana.
With good looks, build, height and over powering personality it did
not take Robin long to be noted and excel in the cinema scene. Entering
the reel with Titus Thotawatte’s Chandiya (Street gangster), he had
lived up to his role ever since.
He is a hero among many action film lovers. He had acted in around a
hundred movies and had ended up directing action in another hundred.
Hasthaveerayo, Sura Doothiyo and Ninja Sri Lanka are such movies.
The old boy of St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, had acted in many
memorable cinematic creations. Chandiya, Siripala Saha Ranmenika, Hara
Lakshaya, Hadawath Nethi Minissu and Hasti Wiyaruwa are in the forefront
of the collection.
Similarly films like Sura Duthiyo, Ninja Sri Lanka and Charlie’s
Angels are a few in which he was able to display his versatility. These
films were mainly based on drug trafficking, smuggling and on social
trends prevailing in the country.
He had also acted in teledramas like Wassane Hiru Ewidin, Hangi
Muttan, Paradisaya, Himarathriya, Bogala Saundiris and the more recent
Sihina Kumari.
