At last the Amnesty International has arisen from their deep sleep.
We wonder why they could not wake up when Millibands, Pillais and
Clintons were making noises all over the world.
This may be another link of a failed attempt by the West to disgrace
this land. Truth is truth, it cannot be bent or buried.
When it come to the human rights, the West has violated it million
times more than the East. We can show any number of evidence that they
have breached human rights not only in this country but also in other
countries.
Sri Lanka, from the ancient times was a peaceful country. The people
were very gentle and very hospitable. Always helpful in others plights.
Then came the foreign invasions, Portuguese, Dutch and British. They
entered our land forcibly. They killed our innocent people, raped our
daughters and mothers, and plundered our economically and historically
valued treasures. These are still displaying publicly in their countries
as trophies showing their barbarism they did in the past.
During the 2nd World War, the Germans killed millions of Jews by
sending them to gas chambers. Still there are living evidence for this.
Also the Americans dropped the atomic bomb in Hiroshima exactly on a
hospital which evaporated with all the human beings who were inside. Due
to this even today the children are born in Japan with so many
disorders.
Recently the Americans destroyed a village full of innocent civilians
in Pakistan with missiles. No Pillais or Millibands or Clintons or
Solheims came forward to raise their voice in UN or anywhere else for
breach of human rights.
Also when LTTE was recruiting innocent children by force where were
these soul saviours of Tamil people who are shedding crocodile tears
now.
Should not they start investigations for violating civil rights for
all the aforementioned crimes since the invasion of Sri Lanka by the
Portuguese or Dutch or British?
Disgusting is the word for those who are in the payroll of LTTE who
are campaigning against this country.
This is what Pillais, Millibands and Clintons are doing these days.
One cannot see that they expect any political gain other than monetary
gain.
Anyone with a vision who could see many miles ahead can determine
that if Prabhakaran was given his dream land called Eelam, he would have
brought the South Indian youth and would have trained them as war
machines and invade Thamil Nadu with the help of the backboneless South
Indian politicians.
Afterwards after forming huge armies he would slowly and methodically
like an octopus who is uncoiling its tentacles will take over weaker
neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives etc.
The fact what I want to emphasise is that, what Pillais, Millibands
and Clintons still could not understand and that is, we have eliminated
or wiped out LTTE terrorism from this land forever. But unaware to the
world, the terror leader has placed his cadre in their soils very
cunningly and systematically in the guise of asylum seekers or refugees,
who have started showing their true colours.
Prabhakaran and his henchmen operated a very successful arms
trafficking network. What guarantee is there that these so called
demonstrators do not possess weapons hidden somewhere in their
backyards.
They must be thankful to this country and the Government for
finishing the LTTE and disclosing all the connections who had with them.
And also for bringing in to the surface all the LTTE faces who act like
demonstrators, Human Rights Commissioners, MPs and wives of former
presidents etc. etc.

Some people believe that Central Bank of Sri Lanka should guarantee
the deposit holders of private finance companies pertaining to safe
return of investment Central Bank which is considered bankers. Bank has
several other important tasks to fulfill and definitely cannot get
involved in guaranteeing private investment.
In that case, deposit holders of Commercial banks also could demand
the same service. It should be noted that people prefer to make deposits
in finance companies for a high return. In that case they should be
prepared to take the risk as well. Profits cannot be earned without
taking risk. I quote below pertaining to investment of funds.
Treasury Bills - Adequate return - Tax free - Easy to operate.
Deposits in State Banks - Average returns - Tax concessions - Easy to
operate other benefits such as over draft facility at reduced rate etc.
Deposits in reputed Private Banks - Little risky - other benefits
like State Banks.
Deposits in Finance Companies - risk has to be assessed.
Share Market - risk has to be assessed expert knowledge is necessary.
It should be noted that just because the finance companies are
registered it does not mean that they will not collapse in the future or
Government is guaranteeing the return of capital.
My sincere advice to the investors is not to keep all eggs in one
basket. Please diversify the investment and enjoy maximum return with
reduced risk.

National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka
It is patriotically suggested to change the day of Independence
celebration to May 18 each year henceforth, to celebrate regaining of
true independence and total territorial integrity for United Sri Lanka,
by defeating three-decade long period of terrorism that was openly and
insidiously promoted and nurtured mostly by colonial powers of the West.
As they seemed to have lost their prestige in the face of the
international community and are still smarting under the skin, they
shamelessly continue to exert their undue pressure psychologically,
economically, politically and ethnically through various international
agencies to vanquish us, in order to cover up their miserable failure
and to prevent us consolidating our victory gained by defeating the
so-called unbeatable most dangerous terrorist group which has
ramifications in those countries.
During these thirty years or so we have lost thousands of precious
lives of so many political leaders, including that of an Indian Prime
Minister and thousands of innocent civilians and soldiers not to mention
of the untold economic damage perpetrated on the national wealth.
The period of thirty years, in fact; was worst than the so-called 500
years of domination by European Colonial Masters from whom we supposed
to have won our so called independence without shedding a drop of blood
and celebrated as the National day of Independence on the 4th February
each year.
If we do not change the date in commemoration of our great victory,
we would be only reminding ourselves of our subjugation to a foreign
nation which has shamelessly demonstrated its ingratitude and double
standards in dealing with our great victory over the most fearful
terrorist organisation in the world.

A Miracle has happened. Now the country has peace and is free of
terrorism. What is next? The great challenge we Sri Lankans (Sinhalese,
Tamils, Muslims and others) face is nation building through launching
socio-economic development-oriented projects, eradicating corruption and
waste, and maintaining law and order throughout the country.
The Daily News recently reported the intention of the Police
Department to establish police stations in the recently liberated North
and East of the country. It is a very commendable initiative on the part
of the Government as it immensely helps maintain the law and order and
more.
It is even suitable to proceed with another step further and
establish police posts (police boxes, small neighbourhood police
stations) at village level.
There are many other benefits of a village level police post, i.e.
(1) close and sustained relationship between civilians and police can be
preserved; (2) collecting information and maintaining village level
database required for crime prevention, and other administrative and
development purpose; (3) attending emergency services; (4) guiding
villagers when and where it is most required; and (5) bringing other
multifaceted police services to community level.
If resources are limited for establishing police posts at the
beginning, it may be possible to assign a police offer to every Grama
Seva Niladhari Division and work together for the benefit of the
villagers.
This is also in line with Gama Neguma program of the Mahinda
Chinthanaya. Japan has this system of police box and it is called
‘koban’ in Japanese.
There are about 6,000 koban in Japan while some other countries
including People’s Republic of China and Singapore have already
introduced the system. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has
helped establish similar system in Brazil, Honduras and Indonesia.

Smoke emission tests have been made mandatory specially in the
Western Province. The maximum speed limit in Sri Lanka is 72 kilo miles
per hour.
Very few vehicles are even driven at this maximum speed. While
testing for smoke emission levels, the accelerator of vehicles are
raised to the maximum, say around 150 km or more.
When this is done the vehicle engine gets affected and the smoke
emission results become negative. What most of the vehicle owners feel
that while testing for smoke emission there should be a technically
approved level to raise the accelerator. It is not conducive to raise
the accelerator beyond 72 km.
I would like the authorities on this emission tests to shed their
technical aspect on the levels of required acceleration while testing
for smoke emissions.
I mostly found that the technicians who do these tests are not
competent enough to advice customer for the questions posed on to them.
