Petes to face stiff competition from Kingswood

The once high riding Kingswood College who succumbed to an unexpected defeat in the hands of Isipathana College will face an uphill task when they take on St. Peter's College in their schools under 20 Division One rugby tournament match to be played at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy today.

Kingswoodians who were heading the table of points upto last week with smashing wins in their first four matches have now slipped to third position and they must continue to win if they are to have a go at the league title which they won last year.

In their last match against Isipathana College they were complacent which allowed their opponents to get into the lead early and thereafter the Kingswoodians tried to defend to prevent the Pathans from scoring further and this had a negative impact where the Kandy school was concerned.

It was in the last 25 minutes of the game that the Kignswoodians employed positive tactics with a will to win and this paid dividends and from 22-0 they closed the gap 25-19. A few minutes of play and one more goal could have done the trick for them.

But this does not take away the gloss from Isipathana's win who played a marvellous game and attacked right from the start flustering the Kingswoodians.

This match should provide entertaining rugby with the Peterities who have won 2 and lost 3 striving hard to climb the ladder in the points table where they are lying in the sixth place behind Royal, S. Thomas', Kingswood, Isipathana, and Trinity.
