Rajans in 20-12 win over Antonians

Dharmaraja College, Kandy staged a good recovery in the last few
minutes of play to post a 20 points (1 goal, 2 tries, 1 penalty) to 12
(four penalties) win over St. Anthony's College in their schools under
20 'A' division rugby tournament match played at the Bogambara Stadium
in Kandy yesterday. At lemons the Rajans led 8-6.
In the third minute the Rajans went into the lead through a penalty
put over by stand of Indrajith Wickremanayake.
Two penalties put over by full back Tharanga Bandara saw the
Antonians take over the lead 6-3.
In the 39th minute of this half saw flanker Sathsara Basnayake score
off a scrum which went unconverted for the Rajans to take a 8-6 lead at
lemons.
The Rajans lead was short lived as in the 8th minute of the second
half, stand off Chamara Kumara fired a 35 metre penalty to put the
Antonians ahead 9-8.
Another penalty fired in the 20th minute of play by stand off Chamara
Kumara saw the Antonians extend their lead to 12-8.
In the 25th minute, a penalty awarded deep inside Antonian territory
saw the Rajans take a short tap and their three quarters moved with full
back Rajindra Kumara joining the line to form the overlap and score mid
right and he added the extra points himself for the Rajans to take over
the lead 15-12.
With five minutes to go for the long blast the Rajans put the issue
beyond doubt when skipper and centre Dharshana Ettipola picked up the
loose ball and sprinted 30 metres to score mid right. Rajindra Kumara
failed to add the extra points.
This was Rajans second win in five matches while the Antonians have
lost all five matches.
